Studio C is a sketch comedy television show produced by BYUtv. The show traces its roots to the BYU sketch comedy troupe Divine Comedy, from which all cast members are current or former members. The show aims to produce clean, family-oriented comedy for a national audience, shedding the LDS- and BYU-centric humor of Divine Comedy. The show was originally planned to be named Common Room until being changed to its current name, a reference to the studio in the BYU Broadcasting Building where the show is primarily filmed in front of a live audience.I watch this show whenever I can remember to stop by the BYU channel. It's my cable providers fault, for being so non committal with the programming. It hasn't gone total HD yet, so the BYU network is way down in the "200's and 100's. But thanks to "Inspired Kathy" I had the opportunity to watch the DVD of season's 1 & 2 and catch up to all that I have missed.
My first reaction to this humor was that it reminded me of early Saturday Night Live, and I mean way back to the beginning of SNL, with John Belushi wearing the bumble bee suit and Eddie Murphy in the Gumby suit. The humor is definitely geek, and slap stick and sometimes really ridiculous. Some of my all time favorites are the "Presidential Shoulder Angel", "Dana's Dead" (really stupid funny), "Flirting Academy" and "Captain Literally".
Unlike SNL, there is no potty mouth, no inappropriate innuendo, so the entire family can watch it. I would recommend this as a great Christmas gift, and I may give some out.
Seasons 1 and 2 of the hilarious BYUtv sketch comedy series, Studio C, featuring Whitney, Mallory, Jason, Matt, and the rest of the cast pulling out all the stops with two full seasons of enough rip-roaring hilarity to make you spit milk out of your nose. Travel back to the moment it all began and watch some of the very first Studio C sketches, plus two never-before-seen features!
