BEING MINDFUL

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
ALMA 26:36-37
36 Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting woe. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, wanderers in a strange land.
37 Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen.

2PETER 2:1-2
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour

On being mindful, what is that? God is a Southerner. When I was little, my grandmother would always say to me, "You'd better mind your grandma, mind your mom and dad.". Most of the time when she was saying this it was because I was about to be "re-minded" and given some sort of punishment. I realize now that my grandmother was a first generation free woman of color born after slavery in the United States. Her parents were slaves and they obviously could read and write and taught my grandmother. I believe that her primary text was the Bible. She spoke to us often in the language of the bible. She taught me to  improve my reading skills by reading the Scriptures. So being mindful is to bring to our remembrance the love the the Father and the love of the Savior. I am so blessed. Temporal and Spiritual blessings seemed to come my way today. I learned today that what the Lord promises he will absolutely provide. Children are a blessing and an inheritance of the Lord. I don't have any now but I know that I am being prepared for the great day that I do.
Friends come in all guises. I believe that the Lord blesses us through the people we know and call friends. A co-worker gave me a brand new DVD player today. Yesterday we were just talking and I mentioned that my old one was 10 years old and it was getting harder to watch DVDs . She looked at me and shook her head and said that she would bring me one today. I offered to pay for it, she just gave it to me. What did do to deserve this. I hope that I have treated her with much tenderness and respect too.

These things are like little tender mercies. I am so thankful for the thoughtful acts others show for me ... even the seemily little things. They inspire me to pay it forward. I think being mindful of others is a gift of the Spirit and it's one I pray for because I feel I could always be a little more mindful. Enjoy your new DVD player.
Take care Ramona!
